Teacher’s Teaching Method

I had my first observation at XI- Bilingual 3 which I watched how did ma’am Julie taught the class. I was able to identify several teaching methods and strategies she employed inside the classroom. I also learned how Ms. Julie caters the individual needs of the students. Since the number of students was lower compare to the number of students in the Philippines; I can conclude that this was much easily to assists the needs of each student. Other important observations were listed as it follows:

  • Teacher is relatively a facilitator in the classroom- Ms. Julie guide and supports the students in learning process rather than solely feeding the students the information or the grammar rules for example.

  • Highly valued assessments rather than longer discussion of rules- My coordinating teacher prefer giving practice materials after shortly discussing the lesson. They employ scaffolding strategies. For example; in the first exercises, Ms. Julie will demonstrate how they can answer the activity; then, they will have a guided practice, and lastly, they will have independent practice.

  • Peer-Tutoring as an essential part of conceptual understanding-Students can improve their comprehension and understanding regarding with the concepts when they were doing the activities with their peer or their peer were helping them to derive mastery from the teacher’s discussion or from the textbook. My first question to my coordinating teacher was, how can we assure that they were learning rather than relying solely to the explanation and answers of their peer? Her answer was simple and further elaborated on the next bullet.

  • Individual feedback-Even though in every exercise they were allowed to work with their classmates there will be individual feedback when the teacher was checking their answers. For example, one student asked and passed their works; then, the teacher must ask something about their answers and test whether they really
